Wow!

Health Kids Day last Saturday, April 14th was so much fun. I think lots of people in Tucson, AZ like the idea of being healthy and staying fit, because the event brought out a bunch of them. Since it rained a little in the morning (yea!), we got to do our "Squirrely Shirley Meets Fry-Fry!" show in the meeting room of the Himmel Branch Library instead of outside as planned. Our show ROCKED (even if I say so myself)!

I really like it the kids get my little jokes, and everyone has a good time helping that storytelling-person-lady, Glenda Bonin, tell stories. Best of all, we got our message across, and the kids helped me say "Bye-Bye, Fry-Fry." (If you don't know about that awful guy, Fry-Fry, be sure to catch our show at the Sierra Vista Library, June 7 at 10 a.m.)

Hi!

The Tucson Festival of Books in March was awesome! Hope you were able to go. I had a lot of fun checking out all the different fun activities the festival had to offer, and I liked all the stories told under the storytelling tent. Maybe one day, they will invite me to entertain the crowds.
If you think the festival folks should feature yours truly in 2013, please like this page. That way, they will know I am one popular squirrel, and I can bring in a crowd.
We are getting ready for our summer library show, "Squirrely Shirley Meets Fry-Fry!" To kick off the season, we will be at the Sierra Vista Library June 7th. Save the date, and I will give you more info in my next journal post.

Hi Everyone!

I've been busy helping that storyteller-person-lady, Glenda Bonin, get things ready for the Storytelling Tent at Tucson Festival of Books. The event starts tomorrow, and during the two days celebrating stories, books and authors (Saturday & Sunday - March 10 & 11) fourteen storytellers will be telling stories (no not all at the same time). It's going to be a lot of fun, so if you can come to the University of Arizona Mall on either one of the days, you will be glad you did. Stop by and say hello to my favorite storyteller-person-lady-Glenda Bonin!

Thanks Everyone!

We had the 'bestest' show on the 19th. I just wanted to thank everyone who took time out of their Sunday afternoon to come and share the fun. We had some terrific kids and adults visiting and I could feel the love. We hope to continue our show in the future, so stay tuned.
Hope to see you then!

I think I am turning into "Chatty Cathy" (hee-hee), that's a doll my Storyteller-person-lady-friend-Glenda Bonin would remember. Anywhoose, I just wanted to share some video of our last show at Himmel Park Library. Let me know what you think. Click here to watch.

A note to my fans:
I always love receiving email from you - everyone likes to hear from friends - and just because I am a squirrel doesn't mean I'm any different. Anyway, most of the time the email I get is encouragement about exercising and eating well so I can stay fit and not run into health problems like my Uncle Munchie (remind me to tell you this sad story . . .). Last week, however, I got an email from Fry-Fry. Can you believe it? He keeps trying to lure me back to the picnic table with photos of sugary, greasy, salty foods by telling me he thinks this stuff is healthy. Really? Healthy? Hmmmm - I'm not to certain about this. Click here to see the pictures of the dinner he had. Why does he think we need to deep fry everything? Once in a while, it is fun to try this stuff, but the storyteller person lady, Glenda Bonin, says it isn't a good idea to eat like this all the time. I'd like to know what you think about this. Send me your thoughts, and I promise to write back.

Dear Friends and Fans,
I am looking forward to having a large audience of children and families next Thursday, December 29th at the Himmel Branch Library in Tucson, Arizona. The hour-long show will start at 3:30 p.m., and a video will be made to help potential sponsors see what a great job "Squirrely Shirley Meets Fry-Fry" does to get kids to think about making healthy choices. The cool part is that our friends at Attune Foods have provided us with coupons for free boxes of Uncle Sam Cereal - actually my "handy dandy, disposable washing machine" - so they can see if it works for them!

Sam Dragonetti did a great job watching my tree house when I was away. I hope he joins a social network on the Internet so I can write him a recommendation. He's a great tree-sitter!

So, here we are in the middle of the summer, and we are already talking about where the "Squirrely Shirley Meets Fry-Fry" tour will take us next year. Sometimes it's hard to stay in the here and now when we are busy planning ahead.

Our wonderful artist, Lisa Cardenas has already started to create our 2012-2013 coloring book about the time I put on a few extra pounds because I wasn't careful about what I was eating.

Do you know that when you weigh more than you should, it is hard to get around? As a rule, squirrels aren't concerned about this, but I found out the hard way. Hope my story will keep others from making the same mistake!

Our design firm, Buchanan Design in San Diego, has agreed to help create our overall image - I think they call this the "program brand."
Anyway, our tour next year will be a success because we have managed to get so many fine people to join our team. We still need a few more partners. Are you interested? If you are, I will ask the storyteller person lady, Glenda Bonin, to send you a copy of the plan. Your Friend, Squirrely Shirley

Hi Friends, It's June 1st and vacation time!
I am going with that story-teller-person-lady-Glenda Bonin to California to see a friend graduate and then hopefully to meet with some people who may want to sponsor us for our 2012-2013 tour, "Squirrely Shirley Meets Fry-Fry". I am so excited about the future!
One really nice part is that I have my good friend, Sam Dragonetti, tree-sitting for me to water my plants, bring in the mail and all that stuff you need to do at home. It is the first time he has stayed in a tree and we both hope it works.

Happy Spring!,

Did you know April 23rd was National Day of Puppetry? Neither did I, but now I do because I spent the whole day in Phoenix at the Great Arizona Puppet Theatre with that puppet storyteller person lady, Glenda Bonin. We did a show for a large audience of children and parents. What a hoot! Problem was, I got caught in a spotlight - I'm not used to those bright lights, and I had trouble finding my bubble solution in my tree stump and almost missed my cue. Oops! Things worked out, and we had a fun show.

I attended the Taking Control of Your Diabetes Conference in Tucson on April 2nd and learned a whole lot about how important it is to exercise regularly and eat healthy food (instead of some of the junk I've been sampling lately). It's hard to say no to all that sweet, salty and greasy fried food, but I do a little better each day, so I guess there is hope for this little squirrel.

I'm planning to hanging with Glenda Bonin to put on a few more shows this summer at various places around Arizona. Will keep you informed.

Hi All,
Hope everyone has had a great winter. Even though it has been sorta cold out, some of us get to swim indoors (yep, my friend Beaver came through, and the pool he promised to build for me in the lower level of my tree is done). Yea! Remember when we talked last summer about being safe in and around the water? Well, I've figured out a way to give away ALL the pages from my coloring book so you can have fun coloring while you are waiting for the warm days of summer to return again. Just go to the bottom left side of this page and click on the last photo frame. All eight pages from my coloring book are there for free as a present from me to you!

You may have noticed that I've changed some of the stuff on my page. It's lots more fun now with new things to see and do. Go ahead and click on the different photos to see what you find. (I'll try to add new things once in a while, so be sure to visit often.)

Love, your friend, Shirley

I have my own mail box now! It's electric so you can email me, Hee, hee.
